As a home improvement and remodeling contractor, we have turned many “ordinary” kitchens into something “extraordinary.” Although the reasons why our clients choose to remodel their kitchen tend to vary, we have also found that many of them have updated their kitchens for some the same reasons. Therefore, we thought it would be great to offer up a few reasons how you can tell it might be time to update your kitchen—especially if you’ve been contemplating this for quite some time.
Your kitchen looks “lonely.”
If you live in a home that was built prior to the 1980s, chances are it was designed for one cook and is completely separate/or extremely close to e the dining area. These days, kitchens have evolved to become a room in the home where couples spend a lot of time together, and one in which everyone can eat and mingle. What does this mean? Kitchens are BIGGER than they have ever been. Also, if there is a wall separating the dining area from the cooking area, most people are knocking it down.
If your kitchen looks like it’s meant for one person only, it may be time to make it better by having it updated with some new appliances, and a new look by knocking down some walls.
The appliances are outdated and your energy bills are high.
Compared to 20 years ago, most modern home appliances have become MUCH MORE energy efficient, and offer plenty of additional functionality. Therefore, if you have any old appliances in your kitchen, your energy bills are always high, you are running out of room to stock groceries and cook—investing in some new appliances is a must. For example, if you still have a traditional refrigerator (with just a freezer and the fridge itself) you might want to opt for an Energy Star refrigerator. These types of refrigerators are highly energy-efficient and most can dispense ice. Plus, a lot of ovens come with a second oven!
Your kitchen is just “dull.”
Not only does your kitchen lack vigor, but its functionality is poor. These are two things that sound “dull” if you ask us.
These days, a few of the things that make newer kitchens stand out is that they have a ton of drawers, granite countertops, and they also have some color. Not to mention, the way you can light your home/kitchen has changed, and you can now use newer LED and halogen bulbs to make your kitchen shine!
You feel embarrassed when you have people over to eat.
If you constantly feel embarrassed when you have people over to eat due to how your kitchen looks, it is obvious that your kitchen needs a new look! Also, breathing new life into your kitchen by remodeling it will no doubt relieve the embarrassment you feel when you are entertaining company in general!
Remodeling your kitchen is not as easy as it sounds. It’s even harder if you don’t really have a budget to make it the way you want. However, if you want a company that is willing to work with your budget, we at Alan Cherry’s Exteriors can help!
