If you’ve recently made the decision to replace all of the windows in your home, met with a contractor, and wrote his or her company a check, you might be wondering what you should do next. While it is likely that you will take off work or make sure someone is at home while the contractors do their jobs, there are some other things that you can do to help guarantee that the installation process goes smoothly.
Remove everything on or near the old windows.
Either one day before, or a couple of hours before the contractors arrive, you should take down all blinds, curtains, and various other window treatments. You should also check your yard for any bushes or plants that are near the windows and still need to be trimmed. The contractors will need at least a couple feet of space around each window to work, and making as much space as you can for them to work will help to get everything installed faster.
Make sure all of your home’s security systems are off.
If you have a security system and/or window alarms installed, you should probably double–check that they are off. If you cannot turn them off yourself, it is wise to contact your security company to let them know that you are having new windows installed, and that everything needs to be turned off until the work is done.
Cover up your furniture.
Although great contractors will work hard not to make a mess, as well as clean up the worksite after their jobs are done, that is not to say you can’t take some extra precautions. If you truly desire to not dust and vacuum after the contractors leave, you can place some cloth or tarp on your furniture and floor.
Make sure there is a clear path to your home.
It is important for contractors to have a clear path from their vehicles to your windows. Furthermore, they should also have enough room to bring their equipment inside. Therefore, if you have any furniture that you will feel might get in their way, it is best to move it as much as you can.
When it all comes down to it, if you have done the research and hired a great window installation company, you can make sure that the installation process goes faster by considering the four tips that we mentioned above!
